Internet Explorer 6 and peek-a-boo

Friday
May 30,2008

As owner of Facio Design, I’m often frustrated at IE6 and it’s peek-a-boo bug. For some unknown reason when a liquid div (ie one that you want to expand with content) has a floated div inside, and then content that appears along side that floated, ie6 has difficulty in displaying it (surely this is one of the more common uses of css and divs?) My main problem is with content being duplicated below the div.

I found a solution to this problem here http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/peekaboo.html but even that hasn’t been able to solve it fully.

Things I’ve tried include position: absolute, position: relative, giving the div a min-height,

So I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem.

And in the mean time, I’m begging everyone to please download a free copy of Firefox and lets get rid of ie for good

Rebranding complete

Rebranding of the Facio Design website has been completed, so take a look. A lot of time was taken to make sure it was W3C compliant, both XHTML and CSS. I’m quite happy with the amount of colour involved, although I may add some gradients on the background to make it a little more interesting.

Drop me a comment and let me know what you think. Work continues on my other personal sites, including www.firstandgoalnews.com

Now I enjoy the NFL just like the next bloke. When looking for news on the Seahawks (oh yes, Seattle rule) I found that I was having to search round too many NFL sites (NFL.com, ESPN, Seahawks.com etc etc), to find out all the news from the Seahawks camp.

So, what did I do? I built a site which syndicates a huge amount of NFL RSS news feeds for every one of the 32 NFL teams from an array of NFL news sources. Take a look at www.firstandgoalnews.com. If you want to get all of your teams nfl news in one place, check it out:

Right, this is the first post on my blog, so lets make it a good one.

As this blog is being launched in conjunction with my new freelance design site, Facio Design, I’m going to concentrate on how this was created and eventually coded.

Facio Design, Web Design, Logo Design, Search marketing

The inspiration for the site came initially from my creative influences which are predominantly nature orientated. My newly designed logo was also influential and for continuity the typography is used throughout the site.

Using png’s a lot, I almost always have to use conditional comments to get everything to work in ie6, but this time i used a conditional comment to load an alternate stylesheet:

<!–[if lt IE 7]>
<link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”your-stylesheet-for-ie6.css” />
<![endif]–>

People who still use ie6 now get a site which looks good, but if they had ie7 or better still Firefox, would ook just that little bit prettier, and whilst I’m on the subject… Please, everyone, if you haven’t got Firefox, get it here:

Get Firefox!!

It’s free and so much better and safer than Internet Explorer and you can get excellent add-ons too
